How to keep clutter under control

Keeping The Clutter Under Control

Clutter can become a big problem, especially if you live in a small space. Shoving stuff in closets, in cabinets, and under beds usually just leads to more clutter. Here are a few handy tips on how you can minimize clutter, making your cleaning easier and your home cleaner, all year long!

  • If you can't imagine eating it, wearing it, displaying it, or using it, it's time to either donate it or toss it.
  • Keep up on recycling efforts; if you have curbside recycling available in your community, be sure to utilize it regularly. Take recyclables to offsite facilities as needed.
  • Open your mail immediately. Discard anything you don't intend to read or use, and pay your bills upon receipt. You can further reduce paper clutter by using online bill paying programs and returning junk mail to sender.
  • Regularly clean off areas prone to clutter, such as counter tops, side tables, closets, and desktops, and drawers.
  • Routinely go through your wardrobe for impulse buys gone stale; we all purchase things we wear once, and abandon on hangers. You can donate old clothing, or have a "clothing party" and invite your friends and family to go "shopping"!
