Your Spring Cleaning Game Plan
PRIOR TO CLEANING
Before you begin, take every measure to make the most of your Spring Cleaning.
Get organized. Use a checklist so you know what jobs have been done and which ones you will want to tackle next.
Make sure you take stock of your cleaning needs and supplies. Don't wait until you're about to clean the oven to find out that you don't have a particular type of cleaner left. Have everything ready to go before you begin.
Make sure to wear comfortable, old clothes that you won't mind staining or getting dirty.
Turn off your TV and the ringer on your phone. Distractions will get in the way of a quick, efficient job.
Open the windows and let the sun shine in! Let the smell of spring enter your home. Not only will you protect yourself from inhaling dust and dirt particles but also the hazardous fumes of the cleaning products.
WHILE CLEANING
Laundry can be a mindless task among most cleaning exercises. The most efficient way to conquer the laundry heap is to first sort it into piles and then run each load as you take on other parts of the house.
Play some upbeat music you enjoy. Cleaning to music makes you work harder and faster.
Start with surfaces such as counters and shelves - this way dust and dirt won't soil a freshly mopped floor
Be sure to wear rubber gloves. Although it may be harder to grip things, it is worth using them to protect your skin from the harshness of hot water and various cleaning chemicals.
Clean your home room by room - once one is complete move on to the next. This will help you be sure nothing is overlooked.
Throw away everything you don't use. Less clutter not only makes future cleaning easier, but it also has a tendency to give you a more relaxed frame of mind when we enjoy these rooms.
Put your belongings in a designated storage area/box. If each item has it's place, it will be easier to clean in the future.
Clear away knickknacks and family photos so that dusting and polishing can be finished in a more reasonable time span.
When it comes to closet cleaning, remember the one-year rule. Clothes that have not been worn in an entire year only take up extra space. After hanging loose clothing, vacuum the closet floors. These tight areas can collect large amounts of dust and dirt from shoes.
Throw away old newspapers and magazines older than one month. Chances are you will not reference them.
Splurge a little on floor and carpet cleaners. The floor can make or break a room and what better time to be sure it is sparkling clean?
Place emptying trash cans at the bottom of your Spring Cleaning checklist.
You will need the extra space for dirty cleaning rags and supplies.
AFTER CLEANING
Return all cleaning supplies and make a list of the ones you will need to replace.
Sit back and enjoy your beautiful clean home!
