boodle™ Extends Footprint Beyond 350 Markets to Offer Online Grocery Coupons
Growing number of newspapers embrace boodle™
SAN DIEGO (January 11, 2006) — Consumer Networks, a network of newspaper development groups, today announced that newspapers in 360 markets have signed on to include online grocery coupons from boodle™ (www.boodle.com) on their web sites. boodle is the fastest growing online coupon marketplace for consumers featuring coupons from well-known manufacturers such as General Mills, SC Johnson, General Electric and Kimberly-Clark.
Over the past year, boodle has significantly expanded its footprint, focusing on newspapers to bring its online grocery coupon program to more than 100 additional markets. To date, boodle coupons are available through 12 of the top 20 newspapers in the United States including the top three newspaper chains - Gannett, Tribune and Knight Ridder. boodle’s affiliated newspapers have a circulation of approximately 28 million, which is nearly half the circulation in the United States.
"In the past year, boodle has experienced a surge of adoption by newspaper groups for its online grocery coupon program," said Jeff Beliveau, vice president of Newspaper Relations, Consumer Networks. "Market by market, newspaper by newspaper, we are building the largest local and national digital FSI."
Research shows that more and more consumers are turning to the Internet for their news and information, a trend that has forced newspaper groups to develop a strong online presence to reach a new generation of readers. Beliveau suggests that newspapers are transitioning to online coupon programs, such as boodle, in response to growth of online editions of the newspapers. He challenges the newspaper industry to continue to make inroads to publicize the availability of printable online grocery coupons from major manufacturers as they would the Sunday print edition.
"As consumers’ use of the Internet grows and as manufacturers increasingly shift to Internet coupon vehicles, it is only natural that newspaper affiliates make the transition to offer grocery coupons from print editions to online editions," said Beliveau.
The most recent newspapers to sign on with boodle include The Hour (Norwalk, Conn.), Post-Bulletin (Rochester, Minn.), Hutchinson News (Hutchinson, Kan.), Statesboro Herald (Statesboro, Ga.), Great Bend Tribune (Great Bend, Kan.), Lawrence Journal-World (Lawrence, Kan.), The Dispatch (Moline, Ill.), The Rock Island Argus (Rock Island, Ill.), Reporter Times (Martinsville, Ind.), Mooresville-Decatur Times (Mooresville, Ind.), Southside Times (Beech Grove, Ind.), The Leader (Davenport, Iowa), The Bulletin (Bend, Ore.), The Standard-Speaker (Hazleton, Penn.), Masslive.com, official website of The Republican (Springfield, Mass.), Cleveland.com, featuring content from The Plain Dealer and Sun Newspapers (Cleveland, Ohio), and al.com, featuring content from The Birmingham News (Birmingham, Ala.), The Huntsville Times (Huntsville, Ala.) and The Mobile Register (Mobile, Ala.).
